Organization Meeting TBA. This course will present a variety of career options for those students earning doctoral degrees in the life sciences, including non-traditional career options. Invited speakers from a broad spectrum of professions will provide first hand accounts of their backgrounds, training and career paths, professional responsibilities, and perspectives on their chosen careers. Students in the course will participate by asking questions during the meeting sessions and by hosting the speakers for meals and/or social hours. The course will likely have six to eight sessions, one per week, each with one to three speakers. The course will meet once during the first two weeks of classes to review the schedule of meeting times for the rest of the semester and to select the student hosts. At the end of the course, students will be asked to write a brief summary of their skills, interests, and career goals.

Organization meeting Feb 27 with class meetings on Mondays-April 2, April 9, April 16 and April 23rd. This minicourse is an introduction or review for students interested in quantitative treatments of dynamical biological interactions including diffusion, ligand binding, enzyme kinetics, and receptor regulation of cellular activities. We will develop basic equilibrium and kinetic equations and consider these in terms of appropriate application to and evaluation of data. We will consider examples in the literature. The specific meeting times for the course will be decided at the organizational meeting. Please contact Professor Baird (bab13) if you have questions.
